The Punk subculture emerged in the 1970's in the UK, it could'nt be ignored. Punk was not a 'look' or a 'fad' however the dress sense was important because it was a visual expression of the anti-conformity philosophy. Malcom McLaren's shop 'SEX' specialized in leather and bondage gear, playing a huge role in today's fashion market. We still see punk looks today such as drainpipe jeans, doc martens, studded jackets, safety pins, army print and leather. Punk idols include the likes of Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious, Iggy Pop and. Johnny Thunders, in punk rock music bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Ramones.
